Speak & Grow gives every class the same structured journey to follow each half term. It brings the clarity of a whole-school implementation programme to spoken vocabulary, so teaching stays consistent from Year 1 to Year 6 and its impact can be seen across the school.
The cycle reflects how children develop language: first they learn ambitious vocabulary, then use it repeatedly through meaningful conversations, and finally demonstrate genuine ownership through authentic language use. Early implementation findings
Speak & Grow is built on established research into vocabulary acquisition and the conditions that help children learn new words meaningfully and retain them over time. The programme brings these established principles together in a practical approach designed for everyday classroom use.
Whole-School Implementation
Queen’s School, Qatar • January–June 2026
Whole-school implementation across Years 1–6 was monitored through four assessment cycles between January and June 2026. Each cycle assessed children’s understanding of the ten Tier 2 words taught during that half term before and after teaching.
Pattern observed
Across all classes, the proportion of children demonstrating secure understanding rose from baseline to 90% in the first cycle, followed by 95%, 94% and 96% across the remaining three cycles.
Implementation-level consistency
The consistency of the pattern across all twelve classes and both key stages suggests that the findings were observed across the school rather than being limited to individual classes or teachers.
These findings represent school implementation data and are not independently validated research outcomes.
The assessment framework is under expert review as of July 2026. This data measures mastery of vocabulary explicitly taught by the programme and should not be interpreted as a measure of general vocabulary growth.
These early findings show encouraging growth in children’s secure understanding and use of targeted vocabulary during the school’s implementation of Speak & Grow. The programme provides a consistent, six-minute daily structure designed to support meaningful conversation, repeated vocabulary use and progress over time.
Independent Technical Review
The Speak & Grow assessment framework is currently undergoing an independent technical review by an external assessment specialist.
The review is focused on strengthening the assessment framework and supporting the ongoing development of Speak & Grow’s assessment methodology and evidence reporting in line with recognised best practice in educational measurement.
The review is currently in progress. No conclusions, recommendations or endorsements should be inferred until the review is complete.
